To ensure the smooth running of your swimming pool it is necessary to follow five processing steps, described below :

1 Pool chemistry includes: pH, calcium hardness and total alkalinity levels.

  • pH measures the acidity or alkalinity of a solution, here the water in your pool. Your water should have a pH between 7 and 7.4, to be in the comfort zone. Below 7, your water is slightly acid but you will be in an area or eye irritation occurs, as well as the deterioration of parts of your pool (stripping cement parts, corrosion of metallic parts, appearance of creases on liners). Above pH 7.4, eye irritation also occurs, limestone precipitates, and the water becomes cloudy. it is therefore important that your pool is in the correct pH range.

  • Total alkalinity levels, or alkaline, represents the concentration of carbonates and bicarbonates. It helps to know the buffering capacity of water, which limits the pH changes and enables proper functioning of sensors for automatic regulation. A ideal one is above 100 mg/L.

  • Calcium hardness, also called hardness or limestone, is the concentration of calcium salts or magnesium salts. If TH is low, the water is corrosive while if it is too high your water is scale-forming, the ideal is to be between 150 and 250 mg/L.

2 Sanitizing eliminates micro-organisms, and for this, three methods are available: with chlorine,bromine or active oxygen. For these three methods there are regular treatment to prevent, and shocks treatment when problems occurred.

  • Chlorine disinfection is the traditional method. It is powerful but it is dependent on thes dependent on the pH and have the disadvantage that is forming uncomfortable byproducts: chloramines. Two types of chlorine can be used: non-stabilized (minerals) or stabilized (organic), the first beings more degraded by UV.

  • Bromine, which is part of halogens such as chlorine, is used since the 50s in the United States. This type of sanitizing is not pH dependent. Bromine is not effective in the presence of chlorine stabilizer. Beware also, your pool water treated with bromine can turn into a fluorescent green color when the pH is too low, do not confuse with algal blooms.

  • Sanitizing with active oxygen allows comfortable bathing, it is odorless and without provoking irritation to eyes or skin. It is compatible with chlorine disinfection.

3 Defense against algae in prevention is much cheaper than dealing with the problem, the algae growth can be very fast. The algicides affect the metabolism of algae by limiting growth at low dose and destroying at high doses. The use of algaecide on a regular basis allows you to use less product with a less restrictive maintenance to keep the pool water clear and limpid.

4 Floculation is the act of aggregating particles that may be impurities, micro-organisms, residues and make them rush. This action helps to maintain clear water.

5 Filter is a major piece in regulating your water since it carries out 80% of water treatment. An efficient filter, maintained and used properly will allow you to enjoy your pool with crystal clear water. For this, it is recommended to perform regular season washes, annual descaling, and annual disinfecting for sand filters. To know the time of filtration required, divide by 2 the temperature of your water. Two factors are to be monitored, scale which clogs the filter cartridges or causes preferential passages in sand filter, and proliferation of bacteria in sand filters.
